Do you have a Walt Disney World trip planned? And are you trying to figure out how to make it an affordable Disney vacation? If so, then you will be interested to know that there are many fun…and inexpensive….things to do while there, beyond the standard rides, attractions, and shows. And if you are wondering about souvenirs, it is good to know that returning home with special Disney memories does not have to cost a fortune. Here are 10 suggestions for fun, but frugal ways to get the most out of your Disney vacation.
1. The Disney resorts are fascinating and beautiful places to visit. The Animal Kingdom Lodge especially should not be missed, as it has several animal observation areas where you can watch giraffes, zebras, etc. walk around right under the hotel room balconies!
2. Disney’s Boardwalk is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening, with a number of “beach boardwalk” activities that are tons of fun.
3. Make sure you take at least one ride on the monorail. For our family, this is a “must-do” on every Disney trip.
4. Did you know you can ride a Segway? The more expensive version of this would be one of the several Segway tours, but for free, you can have a mini lesson and the corresponding photo op at Epcot’s Innoventions.
5. Think cheap for souvenirs! Pressed pennies, postcards, pencils, pins all are quite affordable and are perfect for kids who love to collect things!
6. You probably already realize that character autographs are huge, but consider a way to turn them into a souvenir that your kids will really treasure. Tee shirts, hats, posters, cards, and even pillowcases are fun when decorated with character autographs. Make sure to give the characters a sharpie so the autograph lasts.
7. Think pins! Though this can end up being expensive if you are not careful, by starting small and setting a budget, this can be a fun….and possibly addicting…..hobby for your kids and you.
8. Education can be fun! Help your kids learn a little about each of the World Showcase countries at Epcot by visiting the KidCot fun stops, where they will do interesting activities at each of the countries. Plus, its free.
9. Don’t overlook the pools. Your hotel will probably have one, and even if you have a vacation home, you will probably have one as well. Be sure to take advantage of it! Especially in the summer, a few hours relaxing at the pool each day can do wonders for both kids and grownups.
10. Literally take time to smell the roses. After 11+ trips to Walt Disney World, each time we STILL see something we never saw before. Disney World is an absolutely fascinating place to visit, and you should definitely take a few minutes each day to allow yourself to enjoy it.
Truly affordable Disney vacations mean more than just doing everything as cheaply as possible…although that can be part of it. You will also want to make the most of your time, money, and experiences. To me, the most important part of this is those great experiences create great memories….that don’t cost a thing, but are priceless indeed!
