Before you choose your Barbados deal, you need to decide what you are looking for in a vacation. You will find windswept beaches and big waves on the Atlantic side of the island, not many hotels, and some casual beach houses. Most of the surfing events, however, are on the southeast coast. Barbados has an excellent transport infrastructure with travel by taxi and busses, safe, reliable and affordable. Car hire is cheap but don’t forget that they drive on the left (steering wheel on the right) which is a legacy from the old colonial days.

Remember that the climate is warm and tropical, so just take light breezy clothing with maybe a wrap, or pull-over for the balmy evenings. Barbados is a relaxed place to be, and casual wear will suit pretty much every venue and every occasion. But just confine wearing your swimwear to the beach only. You’ll find the islanders themselves, warm and welcoming.

The local food is fabulous; it is known as ‘Bajan’ and is served in many authentic local eating houses. There is also a fantastic range of restaurants and bistros all over the island where you can sample dishes from around the world. Some of the restaurants are situated along the cost and have some awesome views. You’ll be able to spend many blissful evenings trying out some the locally caught fresh fish dishes washed down with a chilled glass of fruity white wine, while you listen to the sound of a native steel band and watch a beautiful sunset sinking slowly into the sea. The peak season on Barbados is from December to mid April. If you’re looking for the most economic deals, look outside of this period.
