Costa Rica’s Sights To See

For years it’s been known that Costa Rica has the best natural parks in Central America. How would you like to be standing at the top of an active volcano or sitting in the rainforest bird watching for hours? Mammals, birds and active volcanoes can be seen in all parts of Costa Rica, all you need to do is get there.

Two of the best and most accessible volcanoes are Irazu and Poas. There are roads leading to both of the volcanoes so you can get a birds eye view from above. You will be amazed that you are standing just feet away from the mouth of these incredible active craters.

And if that’s not enough, Arenal is well known as the most active volcano in the world. Arenal was a dormant volcano from AD 1500 until it erupted in July of 1968 killing 80 people and destroying two villages. It’s an amazing sight standing so close to world’s most active volcano.

Have you ever thought about hiking through some of the densest forest in Central America? Corcovado National Park is known as the wildest rainforest in Costa Rica. Home to over 500 species of trees it’s sure to keep your attention and they also have camping facilities for those who can’t pull themselves away.

Cano Negro, a sleepy meagerly populated location that is home to a diversity of waterfowl. Birders are pleasantly surprised by the assortment of birds located in this National Park. Not only are the birds in abundance here, it is populated with large mammals like Pumas, Jaguars and Tapirs due to its remoteness and lack of human inhabitants.

Green sea turtles have called Tortuguero their breeding ground for many years. Out of the six marine turtles that call Costa Rica home for nesting, four of those return every year to Tortuguero. This says a lot for this amazing place due to the fact that there are only eight species of marine turtles worldwide.

Tortuguero national park is also home to about one half of the wildlife like birds, monkeys, sloths, and reptiles than you see in other parts of Central America. The national park of Tortuguero is in danger of loosing some of its protected areas to roads and that would be extremely harmful to the wildlife in this area.

People’s first thoughts when you mention Costa Rica are probably it’s rich coastlines. Water activities are in abundance here from fishing to water rafting and snorkeling just to mention a few. Manuel Antonio has amazing beaches for lounging and wildlife, Lake Arenal is rated #3 world wide for windsurfing or world-class fishing in Barra del Colorado.

But most of all, it’s the natural beauty that brings people to Costa Rica. The lush vegetative rich rain forest of Monteverde is the most visited spot for canopy tours in Costa Rica. Standing high above the forest floor on a suspension bridge or flying even higher through the sky attached to a cable, zipping from tree to tree, it all awaits you in beautiful Monteverde Costa Rica.
