When considering San Diego hotel rooms, realize that the city and its surrounding communities offer an extremely large number of them. Billing itself as “America’s Finest City, ” San Diego is a jewel in Southern California that offers a wide variety of sites and attractions within its diverse geographic area. Given that, it’s easy to see why the city bills itself in such a manner.
Actually, there’s a lot more to San Diego then the city alone. Surrounding it in every direction — and easily accessible via roads and highways — are many very nice communities that host a number of extremely nice hotels. The city has a range of influence that extends south to Mexico and North to Orange County, as well as to many areas in the east and even to the west of the city.
Hotel rooms in San Diego generally differ from motel style rooms, many of which can be found along the several interstates and state roads that run all through the San Diego area and San Diego County, in general. Usually, they’re a bit pricier than those motels, with a great many national chain upper-tier hotels available in many parts of the city. It will all depend on where in the city the hotel is needed.
For those more interested in a vacation or in some touring or sightseeing, and price is no object, the Hotel Del Coronado, over in Coronado, is the logical choice. Situated right on the Pacific Ocean and at the northwestern end of Coronado’s Silver Strand highway (which runs right past the U. S. Navy’s SEAL Team training school), the “Hotel Del, ” as it’s called, is a jewel in the city.
There are also a great many hotel rooms available down near the harbor and close to the city’s Balboa Park. Within the park lays the city planetarium and also the San Diego Zoo, which is famous around the world for its animal collection. The Pacific coast highway, which runs through the city and to the north for hundreds of miles, also has a great many hotels lying along its length.
San Diego hotel rooms need not be restricted strictly to within the boundaries of the city. Just up the road north lies Carlsbad and Del Mar, two very nice communities located on the Pacific coastline and with several high-line hotels available to those visiting in the area. Del Mar also contains a famous horse racing venue, in addition to its beautiful share of California shoreline.
Just outside of the city, to the north and west, is Kearny Mesa and Miramar, which used to house the Miramar Naval Air Station, which was home to the Navy’s “Top Gun” fighter pilot training school. Areas around Miramar and to the north are more collectively known as “North County.” There are plenty of hotel rooms in the area as well as several expensive hotels over to the West, in La Jolla.
No matter where the need for San Diego hotel rooms, it’s a sure bet that a quality hotel will be readily available. Almost all will be of extremely high character — as well as price, in some cases. Some may be historic, such as Coronado’s Hotel Del Coronado, while others may be far more modern and of a national chain look and character. Check the Internet for availability and prices.
