Another 19th century creation, and the oldest town participating in the Wine Country, is Sonoma, California. There are a variety of attractions here and a lot of of them are unrelated to the food and wine culture of the surrounding area. There are parts preserved from the Spanish Mission era, 19th century adobes, old hotels, and even a theater preserved from the 1930s. Sonoma is definitely an excellent place to find vacation rentals to set up your base of operations, though there are amazing hotels and a variety of bed and breakfasts here as well. I Wanna See You In The Colorado Mountains

Start your tour of America’s Alps in the town of Durango, nestled in Colorado’s southwestern corner. In the winter, the visitor has their choice of five different ski resorts within an hour’s drive. At Montrose, you will need to cut over to the east on U.S. 50, skirting the southern edge of Gunnison National Forest in order to visit Gunnison and Salida, which is home to one of the oldest whitewater kayaking events in the country, the FIBArk Race, which is the “weekend that Salida comes out to play,” held in June during the spring runoff.

It is difficult to pick one place in Colorado’s mountain country that stands above the rest but the Rocky Mountain National Park and nearby Estes Park in the north central part of the state are definitely front runners. Take advantage of local cabin rentals, or stay at the historic Stanley Hotel, where novelist Steven King got the inspiration for The Shining. Founded by a settler from Missouri in 1859, Estes park is situated along the Big Thompson River, and is the gateway to the national park located just a few miles west.

This vivid drive will lead you to an altitude of over 12,000 feet above sea level and some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in North America, if not the world.

Of course, Colorado is the West, and that means cattle drives and horses. Well, the grand cattle drives are long over and were primarily in the level eastern portion of the state, but you and your family can experience some of it at one of the area’s various “dude ranches”. Even with the great quantity of highways and jeep trails, there’s no better method to see this part of Colorado than from horseback.

What To Expect From A Hotel Management Career

If you’re trying to decide on a career that will give you a secure future and transferable skills, you may benefit from a hotel management career. Among the various skills you will acquire through such a career are management, event organizing, and catering. There are a number of different kinds of managers in hotel and lodging management. General managers are what most people think of first. Their parameters may be set by the owner of the hotel or the hotel chain’s execs, but the general manger’s authority can cover the setting of prices, setting up budgets and allocating funding to various departments, and setting standards for the quality of service.

Resident managers are another type, and by definition they live in the hotel. Along with the luxurious lifestyle of living in a hotel, if you become a resident manager it’s your responsibility to respond to emergencies. For the most part, you can expect a typical forty hour week, but you must be prepared to be inconvenienced at odd hours occasionally.

Another type of manager is the manager of the front office. In this position, you would be required to look after matters concerning the front desk. This typically includes assigning rooms, check-ins and check-outs, and setting up reservations. Training and monitoring the front desk staff, adjusting customers’ bills, and handling customer complaints are also part of the job.

Another position is assistant managers. As assistant manager, it would be your job to assist the general and resident managers in taking care of the hotel’s daily operations. You could expect to take care of operations in a combination of the following areas, but not necessarily all of them: accounting, paperwork, hiring, managing the staff, marketing, sales, purchasing, security, maintenance, and recreational facilities.

One of the high pressure but often rewarding positions is manager of convention services. It is not uncommon for hotels to host conferences, special events, and business or fan conventions. In this position, it would be your responsibility to communicate with the client company to arrange rooms and schedule conference rooms. Convention service managers are present at the event so that they can be physically available to solve any problems that may arise.

As you begin to apply for jobs in hotel management, you will find that employers are increasingly looking for candidates with experience and education in hotel management. You can find hotel and restaurant management programs in vocational and technical schools, or by way of adult education programs. It is also possible at many schools to earn a number of degrees in hotel management. Such programs include education on a number of topics including housekeeping management, computer skills pertaining to things like making reservations, billing, finance, accounting, advertising, catering and food services.
