Liverpool is a vibrant city in the north west county of Merseyside in England. The city lays claim to many world firsts. The most well known of these firsts is that the citywas the site of the the first commercial wet dock to be built on earth. The Liverpool docks were, during the first few decades of the nineteenth century, the busiest in England and the world accounting for the handling of roughly forty percent of world trade. With such bountiful wealth it is not too surprising to discover that the city possesses some of the most fascinating galleries and museums in the United Kingdom, with only one other city in England, the capital, London, having more.
