Why Must Every Person Be Responsible For The Environment?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Usually the time we get as leisure is spent on recreation. It has an important function in our lives. Amidst the stress and strain of modern life, recouping and energizing the body and mind is vital. There are many ways that this can be done. Some of them are bungee jumping, skiing, hang gliding, snowboarding, rock climbing, sky diving, backpacking, canyoning, motor sport, adventure tourism and ecotourism. Ecotourism is where one visits the natural habitats to enjoy nature. However, there are two kinds of ecotourism in vogue. The first is what has come to be called responsible ecotourism. This is when the visitor is sensitive and respectful to nature and feels socially responsible to protect it. The focus here is on learning from nature and reflecting on the adverse human impact on nature. Central to it is the profound appreciation of nature. The second category is where nature becomes incidental to profits. Primarily a commercial enterprise, nature becomes a commodity for business. Tragic enough, this type of ecotourism continues to dominate.

Ecotourism is promoted indiscriminately without concern either to ecology or local culture. Ecotourism is made a mere marketing tool. Resorts, lodges and luxury hotels are located in rich natural locations and often in ecologically sensitive areas. These facilities offer modern luxury with all the wasteful lifestyle. Ecology becomes a commodity to be exploited rather than respected and conserved. Building tourism infrastructure in the name of promoting ecotourism leads to deterioration of the habitat and deforestation. The more the facilities the more are the waste generated. A large number of visitors also mean more garbage and pollution. Many of these ecotourists have no understanding of the ecological consequences of their visits and how their lifestyles in these tourist facilities impact on nature.

In contrast to the destructive ecotourism is the responsible ecotourism. Visitors come in small groups discreetly with just a backpack containing their minimal survival needs. These include first aid kit, utensils, flashlight, map and personal care products amongst others. Two important items that they carry to provide minimal comfort and protection are the camping tent and their sleeping bags. Camping tents are manufactured by many firms such as Kelty, Sierra, Black Diamond, MSR and Eureka. Reviews of each of these tents which come with different features can be viewed in the Internet by searching, for instance, MSR Hubba Hubba Tent reviews.

As camping has very little impacts on ecology, it is generally considered responsible tourism. It pays attention to recycling and energy efficiency. There is much attention paid to their visit benefiting local communities.

Camping is the best form of relaxation and environment preservation. It helps you find tranquility within yourself and with the environment.

What You Should Think About When You Seek For A Lodge In Aruba

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Most travelers love to visit the Caribbean. The consistent warmth and sunny weather experienced in Aruba makes it the top destination sites for most tourists who throng this region.

It is believed that the high growth of tourism industry has contributed to the neck to neck competition that exists among the hotel owners here. The usual trend is to see one hotel coming up with great deals and services in one day only for them to be given stiff competition the next day by other outfits.

This method of doing business has resulted in stagnating prices in hotels around Aruba, even though a lot of luxurious services like casinos, fitness centers, spas, restaurants, bars, swimming pools and gardens have been introduced. All this has made the hotels very affordable, believe it or not.

When you have as many hotels to choose from as you do in Aruba and almost all of them offering identical packages and services, you need to look at these simple guidelines to help you along. The costs should be the number one concern for all tourists.

There are many facilities that offer accommodations of the highest caliber and at reasonable rates. You can get great bargains at promo periods or low season months. What you should understand is that these prices tend to fluctuate from month to month.

In case you are not really interested in all these luxurious facilities that deck most of the hotels, there is the possibility of getting to the low-rise hotels which are equipped with well stocked kitchens. They are conveniently situated next to beaches and offer good services at lower rates to the visitors.

The next thing to consider would be the cost. In Aruba the hotels that are near the beaches and getting the ones that are based in the city is not a problem at all since most high-rise hotels are found in one area. This will give you the freedom to walk around to see the city at your convenience.

If you are thinking of touring the land of Aruba then, there are affordable tour packages offered by various hotels which include accommodations of one’s choice. Always calculate the cost of the whole tour. In most cases the hotel tours are more costly compared to the itinerary you can plan on your own or with the aid of your local tour organizers.

This country is known to contain many types of fish, animals, insects, plants and virgin forests. But best of all, Philippines is known for its terrific beaches. So, if a person is wanting sun, beach and sand, knowing all about beaches in the Philippines will help them find their heaven.

Wonderful beaches abound in the Philippines in the hundreds, and they even host various flora and fauna. However, there are specific beaches that are popular among tourists because they are pointed there by the Department of Tourism. A further attraction of these beaches is the existence of travel packages that include meals and accommodations that are relatively cheaper than in other countries. These locations are laid out below.

Boracay is considered the top destination for beach goers. It has the perfect stretch of white sand that doesnt heat too much under the sun. The water goes a long way from the shore without coral which makes it perfect for swimming. Boats can also be hired so one can go to diving or snorkeling sites that house fascinating coral reefs. And lastly, it offers a variety of services and activities like night parties, spas, restaurants and other seaside activities like wind surfing and jet skiing.

Another must go place would be Pagudpud, located in the far province of Ilocos Norte at the northern part of Luzon. Unlike Boracay, Pagudpud is more secluded and quiet. It is also surrounded by mountains and forests which makes it a nice place for hiking and camping. Its shores are filled with white sand accompanied by strong waves which makes it an ideal place for surfing. People see it as a local Hawaii.

The landmass of the country is actually divided into three primary islands. These are Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. There are typically more excellent beaches that are near forests and coral reefs in the Visayas and Mindanao. On the other hand, Luzon beaches provide more activities like beach volleyball, snorkeling, and jet skiing.

The queen city of the south, locally known as Cebu also has its share of amazing beaches. They are Mactan Island, Malapascua Island and Bantayan Island. All islands have beaches that contain white sand and clear, cool waters. They mostly offer good diving and snorkeling sites.

Another classic in island-enraptured beaches would be Panglao Island which is found in Bohol. It is considered a recent discovery in the list of top beaches in the country but it sure is doing great due to its calmer seas and smoother, longer stretch of sand. It is not comparable though to Camiguin Islands which is a volcanic, pear-shaped island found at the northern tip of Mindanao. Besides the usual activities offered in most beaches, Camiguin Islands is well known for its nature trekking.

Finally, there are the beautiful beaches of Palawan. Palawan is an island in West Visayas. It is home to the very popular El Nido beach resort and Honda Bay. These host some of the most amazing diving sites because one will see the large coral reefs and assorted fish. The island also offers cave expeditions, lagoons, and clean water. These and more are things that tourists should learn al about beaches in the Philippines.

Great Ways On How You Can Travel To Italy Without Wasting Money

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Italy gets a steady stream of tourists, thanks to all of the many attractions in this boot-shaped peninsula. There are even mini countries inside of Italian territory - San Marino and Vatican City. Plus, the country has many historic monuments and art galleries that draw people from all over the world to come and see the spectacular sights.

If you are coming to Italy from the U.S., you have a number of options for your airline carrier. All of these carriers offer direct flights from the U.S. to Italy: Delta, Alitalia, American Airlines, Air France, Iberia, and Swiss International Airlines. If you don’t want to fly one of these carriers, you can always fly into another large city in Europe (like London, Paris, or Frankfurt) and hop on an inexpensive flight from there to Italy.

It’s plenty easy to find these short flights between European cities. The budget airline phenomenon has caused small airlines to compete, and therefore the consumer has a lot to choose from.

Check out the budget flights from cities in Europe or the UK to Italy. You can find flights to major cities quite easily.

Spots like Rome, Venice, and Milan are of course very popular. Some flights land in less well-known locations. Why not give one of these a try? Often they are less expensive, and the location would be great for a weekend getaway before heading on to the tourist centers of Italy.

If you are not European and are traveling in Europe, there’s a new proposal to make dozens of flights available for $99 per seat. Of course these are no frills, but you can expect the flight to be safe and comfortable. Again, this is possible because of low-cost carriers opening in the past few years.

Italy’s national airline, Alitalia, has 37 aircraft and links Italy with around 60 countries. More than 22 million passengers fly safely on this airline yearly. Alitalia flies into 20 locations in Italy alone and 200 around the world.

Plenty of tourists want to check out the sights in Italy. Now, with options in both the private and state-owned airline sectors, it’s never been easier.

Hotel Booking Considerations

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Many people struggle with the expense of paying for a hotel room on a getaway. The price of a room can often be so much that you end up having to sacrifice doing other things on your trip because you spent too much on the hotel. You need somewhere to stay, but that does not have to mean that you should spend all your vacation cash on the hotel room. It has happened to almost everyone and it can be quite frustrating. Find out in this article how to stop finding yourself in that situation by saving money on hotel rooms.

Know What You Want - The first thing you need to do is make a list of the things you are looking for and what you can compromise on. This is a very important step so you can create a budget for your accommodation as well as any leisure activities that you have planned. You need to decide whether you want to rest in the lap of luxury or if you want a nicely appointed, but cheaper hotel room where you just sleep, shower and change and spend the rest of the time being out and about. Also think about creature comforts that you want such as: hi-speed or wi-fi internet, continental breakfast or pull down service. All these things need to be factored in when you are deciding how much you are willing to pay for your accommodation.

Investigate Package Deals - Sometimes a package deal will include useful elements, that purchased separately, would be quite expensive. This is great if you will actually utilize these extras. If, however, they are tacked on activities or tours that you do not intend to use, you should not purchase these packages just because you can not pass up a great bargain. Therefore, it would be in your best interest to check into all “special offers” and “discount deals”, so that you know what you are purchasing, before committing to them.

Are There Discounts Offered Through Your Credit Card Company? - On occasion, hotel chains and major credit card companies form a partnership to encourage vacationing and business travel to a certain destination, and will offer discounts for travelers who pay with this company’s credit card. An example of this is if Visa and Hilton hotels agree to provide a reduced rate to Visa card users who book a stay at a Hilton hotel. Although this is not a widely known available discount, it can save you a substantial amount on your hotel stay.

Contact the Hotel Directly - Hotels will, many times, have advantageous room rates available, which can only be obtained by calling the hotel directly. These deals will often be destination specific, so if you are dealing with a hotel chain, like Hilton, for example, you will likely need to call the Hilton at your chosen destination to get these special rates, as the chain’s main customer service number may not have all of the available information about discounted rates at each hotel site.

Finding A Hotel That Offers Value For Money

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Prices that are advertised for hotel rooms are often very misleading. It is difficult to tell if you are looking at a good deal simply by looking at the advertised price. Before booking, you should always look further into the prices:

Location of the hotel - If the hotel you choose is located off the beaten path, you will have to factor transportation costs into the price of your room cost. If you happen to have your own auto, the extra cost really just involves the price of gas. If you are relying on taxis, or public transport, you will need to carefully factor these costs into the cost of your room. Do not forget to ask about free shuttle services. It is not unusual for hotels to offer shuttle service, at least to airports, if not to more attractions.

Facilities - If two hotels are charging the same price for a room but one has, say a swimming pool and a gym, then that one is better value than the one without the extra facilities. Similarly, if you do not plan to use any extra facilities then staying in a hotel that has them will mean that you will probably be paying extra unnecessarily.

Restaurant - If you are staying in a hotel for more than a day or so you will inevitably find yourself wanting to stop into the hotel restaurant for a meal. When booking a hotel room, ask about the prices of some basic meals. Most hotels overcharge for food. But some overcharge much more than others. If you find that a simple meal like a hamburger and fries is much less in one hotel than another, you may want to consider the one where it is less expensive. Anything more than $12.00 for a meal of this nature is way too expensive.

Breakfast Offerings - Lots of hotels offer a continental breakfast with the room. It usually consists of coffee, juice and toast, rolls or pastries. Some hotels offer large buffet style spreads. If you are not planning on eating in the hotel, you might want to ask for a discount. However, if you have children with you, or a large group, you might want to look for a hotel that offers breakfast. Depending on the price of the room, free breakfast at the hotel can be a money saver.

Check out times - You will find that different hotels offer different mandatory check out times. You should find out what the check out time is before you make a decision. Perhaps it is 11am, or noon or 1:00 pm. If you have to have to check out very early, you might try for a discount. If you have arrived late the night before, you could ask for a discount for this late arrival or for an extended check out time when you leave the hotel.

UK Travel - Accommodation Options

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Is a visit to the UK on your travel agenda this year? The UK is a rich source of history and culture and offer all sorts of attractions. There are also many accommodation options to choose from:

Chain Hotels - Most big hotel chains offer accommodation in the UK including Hilton, Marriott, Holiday Inn and many others. Many of these types of hotels can be found in major cities. London actually has multiple hotels from each chain. Chain hotels are the most expensive type of accommodation in the UK. However, you do get what you pay for. You will have to pay at least $100.00 a night if you stay at a chain hotel.

Independent Hotels - These hotels range from 5 star palatial retreats to 1 star bargain basement accommodation. They can be found in most places in the UK, even small towns that are not particularly considered to be tourist attractions. You can really get a good deal booking into an independent hotel but you have no guarantees as to cleanliness or service as all of that is dependent on what the individual owner offers. Most of these hotels cost between $40 and $100+.

Hostels - If you are young, adventurous, and on a tight budget, keep in mind that the UK offers hostel accommodation. They are most prevalent in London but if you research a bit you can find them in other large cities. Hostels offer a bed in a shared room and not much more. The best thing about a hostel is that you can stay in one for about $20 a night. Prices vary though so check on them before deciding to stay in a hostel.

Bed And Breakfasts - These are a UK tradition and often the type of accommodation that citizens of the UK choose when traveling within their own country. Most bed and breakfasts are large homes that offer rooms to travelers as well as breakfast. Your host will invariably want to make sure that you are comfortable and feeling at home. This type of accommodation usually costs somewhere between $20 and $50 a night.

Most UK accommodation have a website or can be found on one of those websites that offers a variety of accommodation. However you look, you should be able to find the perfect accommodation for your UK vacation in less than half an hour.

Several Tips To Cut Down Costs When Preparing For A Cruise

Monday, July 5th, 2010

If you are going to take the time and effort to book a cheap cruise in order to save money, you should also be certain that you are being cost effective in you pre-trip preparations. Here are several tips for keeping your costs down as you prepare for your cruise.

First, shop your own closet.

You already have all of the clothing you need for your cruise. Unless you have nothing that fits, or all of your summer clothing is threadbare, you don’t need to buy anything new. Wear your regular bathing suits, shorts, and summer dress clothing that you would be wearing at home. You are just going to relax and unwind. You aren’t going to interview for a job with a fashion magazine.

Same for luggage, use what you have. Nobody cares what your luggage looks like. Brand new sexy leather luggage isn’t going to impress anybody. You’re on a boat. Just go with a casual duffle or regular bag. You’ll look less like you are trying too hard this way too.

Use cash, rather than plastic.

While you should probably bring your credit card with you on your cruise, consider it for emergency use only. For spending money, set a budget ahead of time for things like souvenirs and put this amount aside in cash or traveller’s checks for your cruise. This will keep you from over-spending and help you avoid the “charge it” syndrome once you are on board.

Stock up on film before you leave.

Of course, no cruise would be complete without taking tons of pictures of your trip to share with friends and relatives upon your return. Film prices on the cruise ship are notoriously expensive though. Stocking up on cheap rolls of film from your local discount store will save you a bunch of money.

Keep your frugality consistent. Since you’ve gone to the trouble to find the best cruise deal, you want to save money on the cruise preparations as well. If you are careful, you can be frugal during your prep and have more fun money to spend. Have fun!
