Tips For Saving Money When Going On A Cruise

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

If you are seriously interested in saving money by looking for good cruise deals, it similarly important to look for ways to shave costs while you are planning the cruise. Here are a few ideas that may help you save some money as you get ready to set sail.

Start out by just bringing what you have with you.

You don’t need to go on a shopping spree before you go on your cruise, and the clothes that you wore last year will do just fine for your trip. Unless you plan on modeling the latest fashion on deck, go and relax and have a good time, and don’t feel bad about bringing last years shorts.

The same rule goes for your baggage also. People are not going to be staring at your suitcase as you stroll down to your state room, so just pack your clothes into whatever you have at home, and save the money from not buying the matching suitcase set and use for something that matters.

Stash the credit cards and bring out the cash.

Take some time and plan ahead and think about how much money you want to spend on mementos and souvenirs. Keep that money set aside, and stick to your budget on the cruise. Try and not use your credit card unless it is necessary, and you will avoid the shock of charging too much on your trip. Don’t use your plastic unless it is an emergency.

Get plenty of film before you head out.

No cruise is complete unless you can take pictures of your adventure and sharing them with people when you get home. Paying for those memories will cost you a lot of money if you get your film on board. The better thing to do is get enough for the trip from the store before you leave.

Since you’ve invested time and energy into booking a cheap cruise, use these suggestions to save even more money before you go. Make a budget and plan ahead and be frugal. That way you will have more to spend when you go, and less debt when you get back.

Beaches In The Philippines For Tourists

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

The Philippines is a beautiful archipelago made up of 7107 islands found in the south eastern part of Asia. It is a country with a diverse culture, rich in custom and populated with friendly people. This country is known to contain many types of fish, animals, insects, plants and virgin forests. But best of all, Philippines is known for its terrific beaches. So, if a person is wanting sun, beach and sand, knowing all about beaches in the Philippines will help them find their heaven.

Wonderful beaches abound in the Philippines in the hundreds, and they even host various flora and fauna. However, there are specific beaches that are popular among tourists because they are pointed there by the Department of Tourism. A further attraction of these beaches is the existence of travel packages that include meals and accommodations that are relatively cheaper than in other countries. These locations are laid out below.

Boracay is considered the top destination for beach goers. It has the perfect stretch of white sand that doesnt heat too much under the sun. The water goes a long way from the shore without coral which makes it perfect for swimming. Boats can also be hired so one can go to diving or snorkeling sites that house fascinating coral reefs. And lastly, it offers a variety of services and activities like night parties, spas, restaurants and other seaside activities like wind surfing and jet skiing.

Another must go place would be Pagudpud, located in the far province of Ilocos Norte at the northern part of Luzon. Unlike Boracay, Pagudpud is more secluded and quiet. It is also surrounded by mountains and forests which makes it a nice place for hiking and camping. Its shores are filled with white sand accompanied by strong waves which makes it an ideal place for surfing. People see it as a local Hawaii.

The landmass of the country is actually divided into three primary islands. These are Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. There are typically more excellent beaches that are near forests and coral reefs in the Visayas and Mindanao. On the other hand, Luzon beaches provide more activities like beach volleyball, snorkeling, and jet skiing.

The queen city of the south, locally known as Cebu also has its share of amazing beaches. They are Mactan Island, Malapascua Island and Bantayan Island. All islands have beaches that contain white sand and clear, cool waters. They mostly offer good diving and snorkeling sites.

Another classic in island-enraptured beaches would be Panglao Island which is found in Bohol. It is considered a recent discovery in the list of top beaches in the country but it sure is doing great due to its calmer seas and smoother, longer stretch of sand. It is not comparable though to Camiguin Islands which is a volcanic, pear-shaped island found at the northern tip of Mindanao. Besides the usual activities offered in most beaches, Camiguin Islands is well known for its nature trekking.

Finally, there are the beautiful beaches of Palawan. Palawan is an island in West Visayas. It is home to the very popular El Nido beach resort and Honda Bay. These host some of the most amazing diving sites because one will see the large coral reefs and assorted fish. The island also offers cave expeditions, lagoons, and clean water. These and more are things that tourists should learn al about beaches in the Philippines.

Beaches in the Philippines are clean, safe and just plain beautiful. For loads more info on the best beaches check out our exclusive Philippines resorts overview.

Introducing Stornoway Vacations

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Many people enjoy taking unusual vacations and more and more travelers are finding the usual seaside vacations increasingly tedious. The need to find is forever increasing and vacation planners are constantly searching for new vacation destinations or which feature something unusual. In the article below I examine Stornoway on the remote island of Lewis in the Atlantic ocean off the Scottish west coast and discuss the factors which make this such a fantastic vacation destination.

The Isle of Lewis

The Isle of Lewis, with the Isle of Harris, is the largest land mass in the western Isles/Outer Hebrides. The archipelago is found a fair distance off the west coast of Scotland a little further out from the Isle of Skye, needing a ferry journey or flight to travel to it. Because of the extreme remoteness it is only the most recent generations that have really had access to the islands for a vacation, prior to this it was only the rich who could afford the trip. The only other option to visit the western Isles/Outer Hebrides was to arrive to seek employment.

The Town Of Stornoway

At one time way back in the past Stornoway was a very important fishing port. The main quarry of the multitude of fishing boats was herring and throughout the herring season the town’s population expanded from approximately five or six thousand to more than 30,000. An astonishing quantity of Stornoway Hotels, bed and breakfasts and guesthouses developed to meet the demands for lodging the incredible influx of temporary workers created. Nowadays the population of the town stays at just more than six thousand (excluding tourists).

Unfortunately the herring industry fell into a dramatic decline at the end of World War One with the utter collapse of the markets in Germany and Russia. Stornoway still has a tiny fishing fleet however few buildings remain from those times and the town lost a great deal of its charm during the 1970’s when it was extensively redeveloped.

In recent years the Western Isles Council has enhanced, rather sympathetically, the town centre building a couple of sculptures on the herring industry theme as well as also adding areas of flower beds and even fountains. New architecture are also more beautiful, such as An Lanntair, the local arts centre.

Despite the fact that there are a great deal less Stornoway hotels in existence, just the Royal Hotel can be dated back to the peak of the Herring industry, there remains a large number of bed and breakfasts in Stornoway, plus guest houses, hostels and inns. There is even a camping and caravan site on the outskirts of Stornoway.

If you are planning a vacation in the Western Isles/Outer Hebrides please take a look at our extensive list of Stornoway hotels.

If you are planning a vacation and you are considering Stornoway Hotels please visit our site where you will find our listings of Stornoway Hotels and other accommodation in the town.

Tokyo Love Hotel

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Most people don’t know about the Love Hotel Tokyo trend which is a cultural aspect of Japan. Japanese love hotels are places meant specifically for couples to get some privacy and intimacy. The trend started developing mainly in Tokyo, the capital. These hotels give rooms on rent by the hour to couples who are otherwise starved of privacy and space in the crowded city. Here are some details about these trendy and friendly places.

It was actually the conservative culture of Japan that lead to the establishment of such romantic hotels. Most of the young unmarried people stay with their family and afford to share some private moments in some corner of the streets or stay together in a live-in mode in some undersized, shared apartments.

The love hotels originally started off as tea rooms where lovers and sex-workers used to have their secret liaisons. This idea was tweaked and tuned to cater to the needs of today’s couples and meet their long standing need of privacy and confidentiality. There is no formal check in procedure for these hotels and the staff interactions are minimal keeping the above needs of the patrons in mind. Most places carry out transactions electronically while there are some who have staff sitting behind frosted glass or screens.

Here is an outline of the procedure followed by these places. You first select a room by referring an electric catalogue. Te rooms that are lit up on the display are those that are available. This display looks quite similar to vending machines. Once you select your room and pay for it, you are free to proceed to it in complete privacy. You will typically get rooms on an hourly or short day basis. Some of these places also have an overnight stay option. The rates of these Japanese love hotels depend upon the location of the hotel and the services offered.

Most hotels are located in areas that are well serviced by public transport. This makes them extremely accessible to working professionals and young adults, their target market. In terms of design, hotels are often designed with many different entrances to allow for discretion.

In the Tokyo love hotel circuit you will get cheap hotels which offer a bare minimum; a bed! You can also go for something higher and more upscale places which offer a whole lot of fancy options and services. These can include anything from vibrating beds to themed dcor to mirrored walls and the evergreen option of sex toys to spice things up.

The more traditional Japanese love hotels offer a combination of garish architecture with tackily decorated rooms. These places tend to veer on the lies of fantasia. Many of these hotels were built like castles with crazy neon lighting and other such tacky stuff. They are the popular places around town today. There are also those which have muted the concept of a typical love hotel by disguising them as regular joints. These are usually the more modern establishments.

Despite the nature of their business, these establishments tend to maintain very traditional notions of sexuality. As such, it is difficult for gay couples to book into a room.

So, if ever you have a chance to visit Japan in the future, do book a room for an hour or two in one of these love hotel Tokyo chain of hotels for a change. You will be experiencing the air of youth and puppy love as if you were a teenager.

The County Of Georgia

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

There are many intriguing places to visit in Georgia which promise a lot of adventure. You might be visiting “Hotlanta”, enjoying nightclubs, the music and theatre in this lovely southern city, or you might be tempted to head to one of the resorts that dot Georgia’s vast countryside. A vacation here will surely recharge your batteries. Whatever may your choice be that Georgia will be a wonderful vacation spot is absolute.

The state of Georgia is culturally rich and steeped in history with Atlanta playing a significant role in the history of the country. In the Civil War, the city was a supply centre for the army and there was also an important railroad. Due to its importance, it was burned down by General Sherman.

Today however, Atlanta is a bustling city, proud of its influences in music, food and southern culture. And anyone who is planning one of their vacations in Georgia might want to consider booking a bed and breakfast and exploring the area. Fast-paced development mixes with southern traditions, bearing witness to the stormy past and at the same time opening to the cutting-edge future.

For those with a taste for a calm restful atmosphere, Georgia offers resorts and areas that serve everyone. If you set towards the south east Georgian coast, you can enjoy a refreshing stay at the Sea Island Resorts. From 1928, Sea Island Resort has been offering top notch 5-star accommodations. Other things you can do in addition to lounging on beaches and pools here include, , horse riding, tennis, golf and a massage session at its luxurious spa.

Another quaint little city that is worth visiting is Savannah. It is a Southern enclave that just oozes old world charm. From its cobblestone streets to the beautifully restored houses and countryside charm, it is a great family destination. It also has the novel distinction of being the only city that has been a birthday present and to a President no less. It was given to Lincoln as a birthday present!

While it isn’t a birthday present anymore, it is still a charming city and one that has retained its flavour and identity while developing and moving forward with the rest of the country. Music lovers will enjoy the chance to soak up some local tunes while history and culture buffs might like a visit to the museum. If you are the outdoorsy type then you might want to grab a kayak and head out to sea. Who knows, you might just run into some dolphins.

If you prefer a more rustic environment when on your vacations in Georgia, then renting a pet and child friendly wilderness cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Georgia might be more your style. Cabins can be rented by the night or week and there are plenty of outdoor activities that bring you close to nature. Fishing and hiking through the mountains can be a good start, however there is also abundant horseback riding, tubing down slow rivers or even for daredevils, white water rafting on the Ocoee River.

The best thing about vacations in Georgia is that irrespective of the setting, you are bound to have fun. Delicious food, a wonderful nightlife and a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities with some of the friendliest people you’ve known is just the icing; the cake is yours to bake.
