Getting Married Abroad

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Getting married abroad was until a couple of years ago a box standard affair in the caribbean, but now there is some fantastic purpose built hotels and resorts with breathtaking settings and guaranteed weather in some of the worlds best locations.

Don’t rush into your dream day and research is the key to a great day.

Things to consider when deciding on your ideal destination is the weather, for example if you are considering the southern hemisphere the season is from November to April with a lot of rain in between! Other idyllic spots look great in the brochure or online but consider the effect of an overcrowded resort in stifling heat which could ruin the big day.

Generally speaking getting married abroad is a more intimate affair with time to spend with close family and friends and the bonus of course is it can be considerably cheaper.

Once you have shortlisted your choice be sure to check out all the legal requirements of the particular country. Many countries have different traditions and requirements, for instance some countries may require you to spend a minimum period in the country before being allowed to marry. Often a civil ceremony is the only recognized ceremony on offer and finally be sure to check all passport and visa requirements.

Nowadays most hotels offering wedding facilities have packages on offer which can be a great way of booking the majority of your wedding in one go. If you are looking more towards a Tailor made wedding the services of an experienced planner should be employed. Local knowledge is key here and can crucial in selecting products and services like flowers, hairdressers, restaurants and cars etc.
